Holy Cross Catholic Academy earns official recognition as an IB World School

Applications for IB Programme are currently being accepted for September classes

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Holy Cross Catholic Academy on becoming an authorized IB World School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

With this new designation, the Woodbridge high school joins a global community of schools committed to developing worldly, knowledgeable and caring youth who can firmly negotiate their futures successfully and make meaningful contributions to a more harmonious and peaceful world.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is a rigorous and intellectually challenging pre-university course of study suitable for highly motivated students. Credits earned in this programme are recognized internationally and graduates earn two diplomas upon graduation: an internationally recognized Baccalaureate Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Staff at Holy Cross CA will also benefit from professional development opportunities as they join a dynamic global network of IB professionals committed to best practices in teaching students and in sharing those practices with each other.

Holy Cross CA becomes the fourth high school within the York Catholic District School Board to offer the prestigious IB programme, joining Cardinal Carter CHS in Aurora, and Father Michael McGivney CA and St. Robert CHS in Markham.

“We are honoured to offer the IB program to students wishing to deepen their level of knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, growing intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually as they journey through their high school experience,” says Edward Lavor, Holy Cross CA Principal. “Students pursuing the IB and OSSD diplomas will develop strong academic and organizational skills, engaging in opportunities that make practical and global connections to the curriculum. Students will be empowered to become lifelong learners, challenged to make a positive difference in our present and future world.”

Students interested in the IB Programme at Holy Cross CA should contact the school or apply online by visiting the Holy Cross IB website. Applications for classes starting in September 2021 are currently being accepted. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entry tests for the IB Programme have been temporarily waived. Boundaries to attend the IB Programme at Holy Cross CA include areas west of Highway 400 in York Region, although some exceptions may be made.
