Student Safety Re: Bullying and Harassment

February 5, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we begin Semester Two we would like to address an unfortunate situation that exists not only in our school community but in many schools throughout our province.

Some students feel they are subject to bullying and harassment by their peers. This flies in the face of Christ’s teaching that we are to love our fellow human beings as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:39) and that whatever we do to our brothers and sisters, we do to Christ Himself (Mathew 25:40).

We would like to reiterate the following points with you and ask that this be part of a discussion with your children as to their responsibility towards their classmates:

● All students have the right to attend school in a safe and caring environment. No student should be subjected to any form of bullying or  harassment.
● Bullying can be verbal, physical, or electronic (cyberbullying).
● In addition, bullying is contrary to the school and Board’s code of conduct and is subject to consequences.
● If you are being bullied in any fashion, or are aware of someone being bullied, please report it to a staff member as soon as possible.

Please feel free to access the following YCDSB policies found in the linked documents.
We take the issue of student safety very seriously at Holy Cross Catholic Academy. We ask that every member of our community do so as well.

Thank you & God bless.
